The Botanical Editions are an ongoing and expansive “photographic” study that includes flowers grown from edible and medicinal plants, fragrant flowers used in the perfume industry and flowers produced from plants that are specific to religious and spiritual practices.
My initial intent was an homage to the ladies of the plant world. The personalities that The Botanical Editions unveiled, elicit a garden party of women from all generations and all cultures. They talk sweet, they strut, they are sassy and they are oh, so divine.
Since my creative process is non linear, I allow divergent influences to shape the direction of the work. This causes many revelations to come to light. Thus new portfolios are emerging charged with both beauty and the global context that flowers bring to our lives
My method of image capture, the scanner, has freed me from the restraints and limitations of the traditional camera film relationship and enlarger-based imagery. The scanner allows me to capture images that are distortion free with infinite detail across the entire image. The result is a uniquely three-dimensional rendition of the flower with a sense of perspective and color so rich and vibrant that the flowers actually feel as if they are radiating their own light. They attain a voluptuousness from the depths of their souls that leaves me satiated. In some instance, I have freed the blossoms from the constraint of their stems in affect allowing them to elegantly defy gravity.
The amazing qualities rendered through my unique imaging process have allowed me to present art works that tap into the pure innocence of seeing flowers for the first time and ultimately feeling their divinity.
